Pining Village Hall Management Committee (The Committee) recognises and values people’s differences and will assist them, whenever possible, to use their talents to reach their full potential.The Committee will do all it can to ensure it recruits people based on their qualifications, experience and abilities for all roles within the organisation.
This Policy is designed to ensure that The Committee complies with its obligations under equality legislation and demonstrates our commitment to treating all people equally and fairly.
The Committee is unreservedly opposed to any form of discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation (defined as Protected Characteristics).
Using fair and objective practices, The Committee aims to ensure that all members of The Committee, its employees, potential employees, volunteers and service-users:
will be treated fairly at all times
have the right to be free from harassment and bullying of any description or any other form of unwanted behaviour
will have an equal chance to contribute and to achieve their potential, irrespective of any
defining feature that may give rise to unfair discrimination
have the right to be free from discrimination because they associate with another
person who possesses a Protected Characteristic or because others perceive that they have a
particular Protected Characteristic, even if they do not.
This Policy applies to all members of The Committee, its employees, potential employees, volunteers and service-users.
This policy applies to all stages of employment including recruitment and selection, promotion and training.
Responsibility for approving, developing and implementing The Policy and monitoring that it is being followed, rests with The Committee.
All members of The Committee, its employees, potential employees, volunteers and service-users have a duty to act within this Policy, to ensure it is followed and to draw attention to any suspected discriminatory acts or practices.
All members of The Committee, its employees and volunteers will be involved in creating an equality environment and one that values diversity.
This Policy will be brought to the attention of members of The Committee, its employees and volunteers, and to prospective employees, by giving them an electronic or paper copy of the Policy.
In selecting any partners, The Committee will consider their commitment to Equality and Diversity by asking to inspect their Equality and Diversity Policy.
Our services have been made accessible by providing entry ramps and an accessible toilet.
The Committee will not tolerate any harassment from third parties towards its members, employees, volunteers or service-users and will take appropriate action to prevent it happening again.
Anyone who feels that they have suffered any form of discrimination or harassment should raise the issue by contacting the Chairman of The Committee, or another member of The Committee if the Chairman is the person to be reported. If a member of The Committee, employee, volunteer or service-user witnesses behaviour on the premises maintained by The Committee which they find offensive in relation to the Protected
Characteristics, even if it is not directed at them, they should also use this procedure.
MONITORING AND REVIEW:
This Policy will be monitored through discussion, in meetings of The Committee, of any reported incidents in order to judge its effectiveness and to identify areas for improvement.
This Policy will be regularly reviewed to ensure that it continues to reflect the needs and practices of The Committee.
This Policy will also be reviewed if legislation changes or if monitoring information suggests that the policy or practices should be altered.
